Pre Kindergarten Class (3 to 4 years old) and                                   Kindergarten Class (4 to 6 years old)

Practical Life Practical Life activities form the foundation of the programme. They help children adapt to their environment by learning to button, snap, tie and shine shoes. To sweep, dust and polish. And to shake hands, close doors quietly and not interrupt. Held within the classroom, these activities form a sequence of steps through which the child comes to realize order and logic. Attention, concentration, carefulness and independence are all developed through this work.

Sensory Exploration Sensory materials help children to order, relate, classify, explore and understand the many sensory impressions they've already experienced before joining the school. Equipment is designed to aid the senses to discriminate form, shape, size, colour, sound and touch. Each piece focuses on a single activity and sensory impression. These exercises are a key to all other areas of learning. For example, the sound exercises lead to music; sound, form and texture exercises help in learning the shapes and sounds of the alphabet; form exercises also lead on to geometry, botany and geography.

Language   Language is woven into all parts of the programme.  Children learn that words are made of sounds and  that each sound has a symbol. Through learning the sound and symbol for each letter of the alphabet, the child begins to build words. Progress is usually rapid. Stories, poems, plays and ordinary conversation are ever present in the classroom. The aim is to increase the child's knowledge and confidence, and their ability to organize thought, express themselves and use their mind. The child learns to love and respect books - a priceless trait that will stay with them throughout their life.

Mathematics  Dr Montessori observed the human tendency to abstract, investigate, calculate, measure, imagine and create. If a child is allowed to develop these tendencies through manipulating physical material, they easily move on to abstraction and develop a love for mathematics. As a child is introduced to numbers, both symbols and quantities are taught

Mandarin Class  Conducted twice a week by a trained linguist, Mandarin classes are available for all children in the English-speaking classroom. We offer a low-key learning approach, using various aspects of the curriculum such as singing and greetings.

Bahasa Indonesia   Bahasa Indonesia is introduced to all our Kindergarten students. Reading, writing and speaking are taught to prepare for entering the national school.

Kidsport and Music  In these classes, children exercise to music and stories. They involve continuous, vigorous activities that teach children how their muscles work and the importance of good nutrition.

Cooking and Arts Simple cooking is also introduced as part of the school curriculum. The children learn how to measure and prepare the ingredients of different variety of recipe. Art activity is offered daily includes painting, modeling, drawing etc.

Observation  Each child is carefully observed - continuously. Every day, comprehensive records of each child's preferences, level of understanding and overall development are recorded by the teacher. In this way, the teacher can determine the optimum times to introduce new learning materials. The pace should be fast enough to stimulate the child's enquiring mind and build the self-esteem that flows from understanding without overpowering them with concepts they are not yet ready to assimilate.
